Value betting simply refers to trying to get the most out of opponents when you are already aware that you are going to win. The big difference between great players and good players of poker would be that great players understand value betting, while good players do not, it's all about these poker bonuses.  Experienced players are aware of how much money they should bet to make sure that opponents will still call despite their weaker hands.

Analyse the situation

If you ever find yourself in situations where you have placed your opponents on weaker hands, it would be high time to get rid of the ideal-sized bet. However, everything would depend on the hand’s circumstances. If you happen to have a straight and believe that your opponent has a mid-pair, if not worse, the overall bet size should be smaller.  It all lies in reading the opponent, really.  Is he showing any weaknesses? Simply remember that heads-up poker most often deals with weak hands from you and the opponent. It would therefore be your job to get the most out of the opponent as you can. However, you might find yourself in situations where you hold flopped trips while your opponent holds nothing.  Naturally, if you go all-in, the opposition will fold. Therefore, you should check post-flop, if you are in the position to do so. Then, check the opponent’s next move and plan the rest of your overall strategy accordingly.

Ensure that you determine whether your opponent is a good player or not. If he is, he will be harder to read and it will be harder for you to get chips out of him. You might find yourself up against a maniac who re-raises value bets and makes you fold, so take note of each small thing that occurs during the flop, turn, and river. Wait and see whether the opponent will check, raise, or simply call.  If you play quite often, you will come to find that choosing the ideal betting amount will come much easier with time.
